A short history of life on Earth, from its origins 4.3 billion years ago, is the starting point of the "Illustrated Inventory of Dinosaurs", which brings together 47 species grouped into geological periods: from the Triassic, with specimens such as Mussaurus patagonicus; continuing through the Jurassic with the presence of Diplodocus carnegii; until the Cretaceous, when the Tyrannosaurus rex lived.
Doctor in Paleontology Claire Peyre de Fabrègues, from the National Museum of Natural History in Paris, explains in an interview the advances made since the 90s, applying new technologies. Thus, discovering that some dinosaurs had feathers - hence their relationship with birds - has been one of the novelties. Gone are the incipient knowledge generated by the discovery of the first fossils by the British researcher Richard Owen.
The 700 species of dinosaurs that have been identified so far could increase considerably because “there is still a huge amount to discover,” said Claire Peyre. A book to stimulate the curiosity of young - and not so young - readers, among whom may emerge future paleontologists, laboratory technicians or scientific mediators, who have here data on the classification, discovery and description of the main dinosaurs.
The illustrations, in the style of old field notebooks, are the result of combining the study of skeletons, scientific images and reconstructions, with the particular artistic interpretation of Emmanuelle Tchoukriel.
